The deadline day is often under the spotlight, but the truth is that it rarely produces major transfers. However, for at the time 22-year-old Asmir Begovic the transfer deadline day five years ago changed everything. In the last moment he moved from Portsmouth to Stoke City.

“It has been an eventful time for me, one way or another, but I am delighted to be joining Stoke because it is a club moving forward,” Asmir said to BBC that day.

“I was aware of interest from one or two clubs, but once I found out that Stoke wanted to sign me, I was convinced that it was the right move for me”.

Five years later Bosnian international, who represented his country in the World Cup in 2014, is still number one at Britannia. He played 160 matches in all competitions for the Potters and scored one goal.

“Today is five years since I joined the club and I just want to thank all the people here and all the fans for all the support. Time has flown by and I really enjoyed my time so far and I am looking forward to the future” says Asmir.
