hullThe Blues moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table as goals from Diego Costa, on his 100th Chelsea appearance, and Gary Cahill, helped them overcome a stubborn Hull City.

The goals came in each half, but for much of the opening 45 minutes Chelsea were forced to be patient as the visitors defended in large numbers and made it difficult.

Diego Costa’s opener came in the seventh minute of added time after an injury to Ryan Mason following a clash of heads with Cahill had delayed play.

Chances proved hard to come by once again after the break, but the introduction of substitutes Cesc Fabregas and Willian had a significant impact, with the Spaniard teeing up Cahill to score the second in the 80th minute.

Next up in the Premier League is the small matter of a trip to Anfield on 31 January.
